A Challenge for the Actor

Theoretically, the actor ought to be more sound in mind and body than other people, since he learns to understand the psychological problems of human beings when putting his own passions, his loves, fears, and rages to work in the service of the characters he plays. He will learn to face himself, to hide nothing from himself -- and to do so takes insatiable curiosity about the human condition--from the Prologue

Actors Headshots & Casting Databases

So, do you want your own web site? Confused about what to do next? The facts: This whole concept of on-line casting is still in its infant stages. Most film, MOW & episodic TV CDs do not regularly use computers to access casting databases, mainly because it is still not faster & more efficient for them to do business this way yet. If you're in some part of the country other than LA or NY, I don't know that it matters where your photo is as long as you aggressively promote your own site. You should ask the site providers about what their daily traffic is, but just because a site gets more "hits" isn't a reason to choose them. You really need to know if the hits are by "qualified" users, meaning people actually in a position to hire you for something, rather than random web surfers coming by. I don't know if companies take these statistics, but if they don't, they should, and you may as well ask. At this point, I recommend paying to have your headshot anywhere, when free options exist, but if you're not a web guru, a small design fee isn't a problem, and a hosting fee for a site that dighittizes and hosts your acting reel is reasonable also. Just promote yourself as aggressively as you can afford to, remembering, however, that pictures and acting class money shouldn't be sacrificed in the name of something experimental. On that note...here are some options for where you can create an online presence--all with different prices, different features, different user demographics, but all sharing the goal of giving wider exposure to actors.
