Robert
Heinlein
One
of the greatest sci-fi writers of all time. His 1961 novel,
Stranger in a Strange Land is an award-winning sci-fi
classic, the story of Mars-born earthling who arrives on this planet for the
first time as an adult, and with a
perspective similar to that of an innocent child, explores such heavy human
issues such as morality and the
meaning of love. Really, one of the best books I've ever read. Heinlein
is hilarious--
his often off-the-wall
characters are generally not the most politically correct--and that paired
with a blunt
English delivery makes him
one of sci-fi's most quotable authors.
Check out the site of the Church
of All Worlds too! It's a Neo-Pagan religion
founded in 1962 that takes its name and much of its founding philosophy from
Stranger in a Strange Land. CAW is
inspired by science fiction as mythology,
and is dedicated to the celebration of life, the maximal actualization of
human potential, and the realization of ultimate individual freedom and personal
responsibility in harmonious eco-
psychic relationship with the total biosphere of the Holy Mother Earth. You grok it? Your reading
group awaits...
