Project Happy Birthday
Many of us celebrate our pets' birthdays or the anniversary of their arrival in our home. This year, as part of your celebration, make a donation to your local animal shelter, humane society, or other animal welfare group. It needn't be a lot of money. If every pet owner contributed $5.00 to honor their pets' birthdays, our shelters would receive millions of dollars! Please pass this idea on. If we all give a little, we can make a big difference in the lives of homeless animals. Then they might have a "happy birthday" too.

Help Support your Local Rescue Organizations

Patriotic Support for Military Pets

In the aftermath of the events of Septemeber 11th, as their owners went off to distant locations, some pets were, of necessity, left behind. NetPets.Org's MilitaryPetsFOSTER Project was created on 9/17 to assist and support those who are serving and protecting our country. The Project has so far been a rousing success, and the AKC has chosen to give this Project its recognition. Donations are tax-deductible, and fosters are needed, so if you can help or participate in any way, please visit their web site for more information.

Dalmatian Taskforce (DOTTERS )

Is a Dal is the right choice for you and your family? With a new site design, DOTTERS is well on its way to educating the public about these often misunderstood dogs. People fall in love with Disney, but Walt and Michael Eisner don't make house calls to see if the dogs are getting the care they need...You can support their efforts by visiting their site and using the above banner to link to it if you so choose...

Help Close Puppy Mills! A puppy mill is a facility where dogs are bred indiscriminately  for profit until their productivity drops or the popularity of the breed changes;  then they are sold or killed. Many of these animals are bred despite illness, physical   injuries and congenital deformities and receive little or no veterinary care,  victims of greed and cruelty.

Protest Animal Un-Friendly Corporate Policies

Met Life Discriminates

From: Arthur R. McKendry

"Metropolitan Property and Casualty" discriminates against Doberman owners by dropping home coverage without any pre-warning. Yesterday I received a check in the mail from them. It only had the word "CANCELLATION" printed in a remarks section. After a call to our agent, he said it was due to "a substantial change of risk" because we have three Doberman Pinchers and a Cocker Spaniel. We have also never had an insurance claim against us period. Let alone because of one of our dogs.

If you like dogs and enjoy their companionship then you should certainly be upset by the movement in this country by large corporations to take away your freedom to choose your companions, or even to have any pets at all. Find out what their policies are and plan on finding alternative providers to companies that are prejudicial against responsible dog owners.

Please join me and avoid using any MET products or services in an effort to send the message that this type of discrimination should not be tolerated any more than discrimination against religion, race or creed.

Greyhound BusLine Won't Support Rescue!

Thousands and thousands of greyhounds are destroyed each year because they are too slow, or become injured at the race track. The lucky ones get adopted. We need to encourage people to support adoption of ex-racing greyhounds. They make sweet, devoted pets. We are asking Greyhound Bus Lines, which has been using live greyhounds in its television ads, and photographs of greyhounds on its website to promote itself; to step up and support greyhound adoption. So far, they have refused, saying it does not match with their corporate giving policy. They will not even include a link to one of the groups promoting greyhound adoption on the web page!

Please write to Greyhound Bus Lines and tell them to support greyhound adoption. Be sure to include your name, city and state, as they will ignore anonymous e-mails. And actually, please send a fax or letter if you can - it's harder for them to hit the -delete- key!

Dear Greyhound Lines;
Please support the adoption of retired racing
greyhounds. These dogs need help to find their way into loving homes. Greyhound Bus Lines can help by putting a link on their website to one of the national greyhound adoption referral groups, such as:

The Greyhound Project, www.adopt-a-greyhound.org; or numbers for National Greyhound Adoption Network, 800-446-8637 (800-G-HOUNDS) or Greyhound Pets of America, 800-366-1472 on print or TV advertising. The pictures of cute greyhounds on the website, and the TV ads help to show people what an attractive dog the greyhound is. Please help by directing interested people to groups that can tell them about the fine qualities of greyhounds as pets, and how to adopt one. Greyhound Lines uses greyhound dogs to promote itself, we’d like you to give a little promotion backto the dogs! Thank you,
