There is no one definitive Book of Shadows for Witchcraft to be labeled as "the Bible" for this religion, but there are a set of more or less standard texts which are then added to or adapted by each coven, as well as by individual Witches who add material personal to them. Historically, individual covens kept these texts secret from outsiders; only new initiates would gain access to these documents (which were often handwritten) and would copy parts of these texts to make their own book. These Book of Shadows texts illuminate beliefs, rituals, Witchcraft laws and ethics, herbal methods and healing lore, various chants, incarnations, dances, spells, divinatory methods etc. that guide Witches in the practice of their Craft and religion. For example, the Wiccan Law of Three relates to the witch's use of power and energy, for when used, power is returned to the sender at three times the level it was sent out. It is thus that the wiccan witch is a practioner of white witch craft, as witches are taught to take great care when preparing and casting spells that no harm should come to others lest power misused in a negative manner come back to the sender threefold.
