If you are a woman planning this event for your man--remember--guys are visual creatures, and although reading poems can be cool to set a mood, add a few eye candy extras and your guy will go nuts. For starters, make sure you have plenty of candles on hand--enough to create a bright soft light--plenty of light to see by, but the kind of light that makes the thighs of anyone over the age of 18 without the benefit of Hollywood magic look just that much better. Fill the room with scents you both like, using candles, incense or aromatherapy oils--just one or two that complement each other--you don't want too many, otherwise you'll feel like you spent a day at the mall being attacked by the "perfume" ladies at the front of the cosmetics counter. Pick
a cute outfit--and relish the great excuse to try something a
little different. After your poetry reading, if you're feeling brave, consider dancing with your partner. Of even more fun...if you're a woman, try dancing FOR your partner. Pick some good music, let yourself move freely and let your guy watch. Yes, along with Teri Hatcher, I am proud to be an S-Factor girl, taking Sheila's dance classes in Hollywood that you may have seen featured on Oprah. And one thing I must stress is that although others may see you dance, it's important that your dance is really for you, rather than for someone else. It's a celebration of your own self and a chance to luxuriate in the stretchy, sensual feelings of movement that just happen to turn guys on wildly while they watch. If you think you're too shy to pull this off, one way to lose your sense of inhibition (other than alcohol, which is also a possibility!) is to give yourself a thing to do as part of your dance, like for example, have a tray of chocolate covered strawberries handy and as you dance, use the fruit as your tease, finding ways to get close but staying just out of reach for as long as you can. Even if you get close enough to pop some fruit in his mouth, find a way to back away, and go get another one. He will hardly be able to wait for you to be that close again, and he'll surely know he's being rewarded with something sweet by the end. After the strawberries...and, um...whatever else may follow...finsih your evening with a relaxing drink of coffee or tea, so you can connect and talk to each other--from a totally relaxed place. To complete your literary evening, we've included some sets of "conversation cards" that are fun games for couples to do together, and double as a great icebreaker for parties because they help you get to know people in a fun, new way. This ensures you take your evening with you long after the night is over--because remember, as was said in the beginning, women will remember what you say for a VERY long time. And a little cuddly conversation over a cup of tea after the, uh, strawberry thing, when you're already in like flynn, well, let's just say that that'll last for a while if you play your cards right...
