Irish Cooking
Recipes for St. Patrick's Day

Traditional Irish Stew

Irish Stew is one of the most known of Irish country dishes. Generally made with the cheapest and most available ingredients (lamb meat, onions & potato) carrots are thought not to have been part of the original ingredients but they add add flavor, so they are included here. You can also throw in some peas if you like. This simple, yet delicious, traditional recipe for Irish Stew is a perfect main course for a small dinner with family or friends. It's also a low maintenance choice to use as a buffet dish you can prepare & assemble earlier in the day to reheat and serve at an evening St. Patrick's Day party. Use corn starch or arrowroot powder to thicken the gravy, if desired.
