St. Patrick’s Day Scavenger Hunt

Have fun with a scavenger hunt on St. Patrick’s Day! Leave a trail of clues that leads to a pot of treasures. See who has the luck of the Irish and will discover it first!

Musical Shamrocks (just like Musical Chairs)

You'll need: Green construction paper, scissors, tape, Irish music

Before your party, pre-cut shamrocks from the construction paper, or for an adult party, you can have people do it themselves as they arrive. Tape large green shamrocks to the floor, one for each person. Every person starts the game standing on a shamrock. Start the music and have the people walk around the room. When the music stops, they need to stand on a shamrock or they are out. Remove one shamrock after each musical segment.

Ideas for Low Key Irish-Themed Evenings
for Two or Small Groups of Friends

Maybe green beer's just not your thing, and you're looking for a more low key yet still festive way to spend St. Patrick's day. A little Irish Food, mixed with a little Irish culture on DVD and you've got yourself a fun night! Contrary to popular belief, it's not all about the alcohol!

The Quiet Man- DVD

Blarney and bliss, mixed in equal proportions. John Wayne plays an American boxer who returns to the Emerald Isle, his native land. What he finds there is a fiery prospective spouse (Maureen O'Hara) and a country greener than any Ireland seen before or since--it's no surprise The Quiet Man won an Oscar for cinematography. It also won an Oscar for John Ford's direction, his fourth such award.

St. Patrick Apostle of Ireland DVD
Who was Saint Patrick? This new documentary film delves beneath the myth of Ireland’s patron saint to reveal that the patron saint of Ireland was an ordinary man who accomplished the extraordinary by placing his faith in God. Precious few historical facts are known of this man who walked through pre-Christian 5th century Ireland. Two documents written by Patrick, the Confession and his Letter to Coroticus, an Irish warlord, are all that remain. Yet these brief writings captured his emotional state, his innermost feelings and aspirations. Exquisitely filmed on location in Ireland, and using dramatic wide-screen black and white re-creations, SAINT PATRICK: APOSTLE OF IRELAND, visually traces the great saint’s footsteps. Patrick’s actual confessions are read in voice-over, and evocative music further carries viewers back in time to re-live the experience of walking side by side with Patrick. From his birth to his death, viewers are able to witness Patrick’s physical struggles and to participate fully in his transformation and spiritual mission.

The Irish Tenors - The Essential Collection DVD
Television producers seeking to combine the twin phenomena of the original Three Tenors (Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, José Carreras) and Irish music (an international sensation fueled by Riverdance) came up with the Irish Tenors. The Essential Collection includes both their televised concerts from Dublin and Belfast, the first of which establishes the format: John McDermott, Anthony Kearns, and Ronan Tynan appearing on a small, plain stage and singing mostly traditional songs.. The second concert provides more of the same, but is most notable for the debut of new tenor Finbar Wright after McDermott had taken leave from the group. And of course both shows include "Danny Boy"--as inevitable a closer as "Nessun dorma" was for that other trio of tenors.
