Pop Culture
aka Caryn's Childhood

I Want my MTV....nah...too eighties. Time to move on...
THE NINETIES...THE RESULT OF WHAT HAPPENED SO FAR

Oh yeah, I'm a child--one of the media generation. Stand up and be proud. A lot (granted not all ) of good stuff came out in the 70's, much of which thankfully survives in reruns. Some great stuff in the 90's too. Personally, I'd like to pretend the eighties just never happened with only a few exceptions. But maybe that's because experiencing teen angst- and searching for meaning in the midst of such superficiality was a little rough---then again, what time isn't a rough time for a teenager? None the less, it was still hard being a child in the eighties. Ah, well. I'd rather spend time with any of these than Father Knows Best any day--even if ValleySpeak did get annoying after a while...

Enjoy these links of what I call : Highlights in American Pop Culture! Like, only the really good stuff is here...the Brady Bunch fluff--though a valid part of the experience--you can get so many other places I decided to use this area to draw attention to the more unusual...

Dennis Miller I WILL work with him at some point on something if I ever have anything to say about it!! He's so damn hilarious now that he's being himself again instead of some dumb Fox talk show host. Bravo HBO!

Michael Moore and friends telling it like it is.

Spinal Tap I hear they're looking for a drummer...

SchoolHouse Rock-- It's how I learned the Preamble to the Constitution---and why I remember it today--how about you.?..

Willy WonkaA total Classic. It's a fact.  Words should not be necessary.  You can tour aVirtual Factory too!
Hurry, before the oompa-loompas get you!

Sid and Marty Krofft's Living Island Ditto for these guys.

Bloom County Opus is timeless.

Partridge Family I was a little young to get fully into this I think but I really thought the bus looked cool.

Anyone else read Choose Your Own Adventure books?

The Blair Warner Project - Remember "The Facts of Life"

Let's see--I was eight. Of course I watched the Superfriends...but who did I want to be like? Isis--with the powers of animals and the elements you will soar as the falcon soars, run with the speed of gazelles and command the elements of the sky and the earth..you bet I practiced standing on top of the hill in back of my house and calling to the clouds...Wonder Woman...because the clear plane was amazing and the island she came from even better...although as far as the Lynda Carter TV show...Diana Prince and WW were much more interesting when fighting the Nazis than swinging in the 70's (although the alien episode was cool).....Batgirl...yes..practiced that kick and then of course the thing I practiced most--wiggling my nose in front of the mirror--yes--to be none other than Samantha...pretty and smart (smart emphasized over pretty I think--at least in my young mind) and a skilled witch to boot!..used her powers only for good but could get rid of BS from her life with a flick of a nostril..maybe someday (twitch) Hey--BTW--Ever wonder What Happened to Darrin?  Or Tabitha for that matter? And hard core Bewitched fans--do you know who was the Shy Guy?

Sesame Street. The Muppets. C'mon. Do I need to tell you? Intoduction to shopping lists. Forgetting stuff and playing with kids of all races just seemed perfectly natural. Beautiful. Kermit the Frog Reporting to Me Live. Jim Henson was a genius and a huge part of the phenomenon of Sesame Street. And one hell of a guy. I cried when I heard he died as if I had lost a close family member. That's the kind of difference one person can make. And that's why he gets his own damn page.
