Steamed Broccoli with Pumpkin Seed-Walnut Sauce

For those of you wondering how to cook broccoli and take an ordinary broccoli recipe and turn it into a gourmet vegetable side dish worthy of a Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner, here's a delicious and easy steamed broccoli recipe that will take cooking broccoli to a whole new gourmet level! It also happens to be a vegetarian Thanksgiving recipe.

How to steam broccoli:

In a medium saucepan with a steamer insert, steam broccoli over boiling water 5-7 minutes until tender. (this can also be done in microwave, in a glass dish, with 1/4 inch of water on bottom of dish, covered with wax paper)

In a small skillet over med-high heat, toast walnuts and pumpkin seeds for 2-3 minutes until fragrant. Transfer to a food processor and let cool slightly. Pulse several times, until nuts are coarsely ground. Add remaining ingredients to food processor and process to a thick puree, adding more water if needed. Pour sauce over broccoli, and serve.

Makes 4 servings.

Ingredients

1 1/2 lbs broccoli, cut into bite size pieces

1/4 c. walnut pieces
1/4 c. shelled pumpkin seeds
1/4 c. water (or more)
2 1/2 tsp. tamari or soy-sauce
1/2. tsp. sugar
1/2. tsp. onion powder
1/2. tsp. garlic powder
1/8. tsp. pepper
