Danish Christmas Cookies Vanillekranse
It
is an old Danish belief if a visitor leaves your house
without being fed during the "Jul" (Christmas)
season they can carry away the Christmas spirit with them!
Thus, food is an important part of the Christmas celebrations,
and cookies and sweets are often made with the children
and are part of the Danish Christmas tradition. These Danish
Christmas Cookies, also known as Vanilla Wreath cookies
because they were generally cut out in the shape of a
Christmas wreath. Serve these Danish Christmas cookies
with glasses of glogg (mulled wine), technically a swedish
invention, but a popular holiday drink in Denmark as well.
Cream the butter and sugar together. Add the
rest of the ingredients. Mix until dough is smooth.
Put dough
in a cookie press (cut out cookies with christmas design
cookie cutter of your preference) Place cookies onto greased
cookie sheets.
Bake at 325 degrees F, or until very slightly
browned.
