The
Craft Party Theme is : Lavender
Return to: Planning a Christmas
Craft Party
No matter what time of year, lavender is always in season.
Well, not really, because even here in Southern California where the
plants get so confused about growing seasons, my
lavender takes a few months off to rest each winter. But the scent
of lavender can be yours all year round, and with these lavender craft & gift
ideas, you can take the fragrance of lavender and use it to spread Christmas
cheer to your immediate circle of friends by throwing a lavender-themed
Christmas Crafts party, or host a spring or summer crafts party right
when lavender blooms are hitting their peak in your area. Herbal crafts
are a time-honored tradition and a great way to bring friends and families
together and engaged in an activity everyone will enjoy. Crafting with
lavender also smells great! To keep things fun, I would suggest keeping
your group small, certainly no more than 10 people, as this will ensure
that everyone gets a turn at making something.

Party Tip: Make this syrup ahead of time. Have bottles & decorative
materials out and ready. Allow your guests to strain the herbs from
the syrup, pour into bottles, and decorate the bottles with the materials & gift
tags you have provided. Note for Gift Tag should read something like this:

rinse in the shower.
Lavender "Bottles"
Use in a drawer, hang on a
coat hanger, or put in a dish in a bedroom or bathroom.
Scented Writing Papers
Party Tip: Before party, purchase dried lavender buds, tulle
bags or small
muslin bags and boxes of stationery, preferably ones with some kind of lavender,
purple or floral theme.
Have
your guests place
lavender buds into bags, tuck into a box of stationery or package
of notecards, then gift wrap each piece. Suggested note for Gift Tag:
Hope you enjoy your Lavender Letters. Please allow this box to stand
closed for 2-3 weeks, before using.
Lavender Ink
Scented ink adds a delicate fragrance to
your personal correspondence, a fragrance that will hit the air as soon
as the envelope is opened and linger as your reader examines your words.
Ingredients
1/2 oz (15g) dried lavender flowers
6 tbsp water
1 small bottle ink |
Directions
Crush the lavender and put into
a small saucepan along with the water. Bring to a boil. Simmer
for about 30 minutes or until there's about 2 tablespoons brown,
opaque liquid remaining. Strain well, pressing down hard. Mix the
liquid with the ink. |
Lavender Linen Water
This
one you can do when your guests arrive. Just have materials ready.
In a small glass bowl, blend 100 drops lavender essential oil, and
5 -10 drops of spearmint (optional) with 1 1/2 oz. vodka (highest
proof available), stirring well to fully blend. Add oil mixture to
20 ounces distilled water. Put into a colored
spray bottle and
shake well. This recipe makes enough to fill approximately 2 1/2 8 oz.
bottles. Tie each bottle with a festive purple ribbon and make out gift
tags.

Take a little tulle, a little organza ribbon, some scents and salts,
and voila! Instant spa! You can do this one with a group without prior

2 1/2 yds. Gold 1 1/2 in. Europa sheer ribbon
1/2 yd. Green Europa sheer ribbon
Gold thread, needle
1 pkg. Dried lavender
1/4 cup Epsom salts
Chamomile tea
Aleene's™ Tacky Glue

1 1/2 yd. piece of gold organza ribbon for tie. Fold piece in half, and insert
folded edge into tip opening of bag. Sew opening closed, catching ribbon. With
remaining gold sheer ribbon, make ribbon rose. Use green organza ribbon to
make leaves. Glue to top of bag. Tie a bow at the top of the ribbon. Gift card
can read: Use this strip to hang your "tea
bag" over
the bathtub. Fill the tub with water and enjoy!
This next one is fun one to do with a group, but it does
require some time both to make and to allow set. Guests may need to leave
their soaps at your house overnight and get them the next day.
Lavender Beeswax Soap
4 ounces unscented, clear glycerin soap
1 teaspoon grated beeswax
1/4 teaspoon lavender fragrance oil
Violet food coloring -- (or one drop each blue & red)
Melt the soap over low heat until liquefied. Add beeswax and stir until melted.
Remove from heat and add the fragrance oil and food coloring. Stir until blended.
Pour into mold and let set for 3 hours.
Lavender Bubble Bath
1 bunch Lavender
1 large bottle clear unscented shampoo
5 drops oil of Lavender
Clean wide-neck jar with screw top and place lavender head down in
the jar. Cut down to fit into the jar. Add shampoo and Lavender oil.
Suggested Gift Tag note: Keep this in a sunny window. Add to your bath
when water is running.
