Musical Pumpkins (just like Musical Chairs)

Andrew Gold's Halloween Howls

Gold assembled a handful of knowns and unknowns to make special cameos on this melodic and fun collection of original and classic Halloween tunes with a pop-rock bent. From the Beatlesesque touches of "It Must Be Halloween" to Boris Karloff's "Monster Mash" and "The Addams Family" theme song, Gold and company offer up treats that kids and their parents will like, including the "Ghostbusters" theme.

You'll need: orange construction paper, scissors, tape, Halloween music

Before your party, pre-cut pumpkins from the construction paper, or for an adult party, you can have people do it themselves as they arrive. Tape large orange pumpkins to the floor, one for each person. Every person starts the game standing on a pumpkin. Start the music and have the people walk around the room. When the music stops, they need to stand on a pumpkin or they are out. Remove one pumpkin after each musical segment.

Using a bandana, tie your guest's hands behind their back and then let them get into the water to try to catch an apple with their teeth. For even more fun, use a second bandana as a blindfold. If the tub is large enough, you can have more than one person dunk at a time. Put a time limit on how long each effort can last--say 15-30 seconds. Award prizes to the first person who catches an apple wins a prize, or if you prefer, to any of your guests who successfully catches an apple.

Prefer a Low Key Halloween Evening for Two or with a Small Group of Friends?

Bring-Your-Own-Jack-O-Lantern Party

Halloween Movie Night Ideas

Nothing brings people together like a good scare on screen and nothing is more fun than a Halloween Movie Night with friends. Now personally, I have a tendency to hide my eyes whenever things get too frightening or bloody. Yes, I am the person who actually screams out loud in the theater and jumps out of her seat when the girl walking in the dark basement turns the corridor to find--a broom falling out of the closet! I didn't even see any of the Nightmare on Elm Street type films until some of my beloved college friends forced me to sophomore year! So I've put together some suggestions for Halloween movies that I think are sure to be Halloween hits, and included ideas for scary movies that range outside of your classic gore fests, to include some humourous entires, as well as some psychological thrillers and other creepy flicks that leave plenty to your imagination, which sometimes, can be even more scary than the others!
